JOB DESTRIPTION

Music Metadata Internship

We are looking for a Music Metadata intern. You will work closely with our music and library database. You should be passionate about metadata, music and information science. Additionally, you should be good at managing your time and deadlines, communicating in all ways digital and non, and working accurately – both on your own and with others.

Essential Duties:
• Propose, evaluate and test new features or bug repairs for database.
• Create and edit music metadata.
• Evaluate quality of music metadata from open source or commercial sources.

• The intern works to broaden engagement with tools for digital music, musicology, music notation, and audio, in partnership with the Music Librarian and aligned with the Digital Music Lab.

• The intern works both on maintaining and upgrading our technical infrastructure.

• The intern is trained to be fluent in publishing software, Heroku, as well as the other tools we and our partners use in the production of their journals and provides technical support as well as ongoing oversight of our publishing apparatus. To aid in the ongoing growth and impact of our program, the intern is also responsible for ensuring our journals are appropriately registered, catalogued, and indexed and that internal processes such as archiving, and analytics are completed.

• Lastly, the intern provides guidance to journal publishing partners, in collaboration with the Digital Publishing Librarian, on editorial roles and workflows, copyright and permissions, web accessibility and other aspects of publishing practice.

Please keep in mind that you will initially be working from home as a freelance intern basis, connecting with the headquarters on a regular basis. Your participation and abilities will be rewarded with a potential future employment.


Please, tell us in your cover letter and resume about your:
• Background in music; formal education in music information retrieval and/or library and information sciences
• Experience creating and editing metadata - preferably music metadata
• Knowledge of digital audio file formats
• Flexibility with respect to working on multiple projects and shifting priorities
• Ability to balance attention to detail and accuracy with an understanding of “the big picture”
